  • About Ya’acov Darling Khan

    From a young age, Ya’Acov has been drawn to the down-to-earth connection with the spirit world that shamanism invites. At the age of 21 he was struck by lightning and made a personal resolve to learn the shamanic gifts he'd experienced as a child. He has pursued this quest throughout his adult life, studying and practicing with many gifted teachers around the world including an 18 year apprenticeship with Gabrielle Roth.

    He has been recognised as a practicing shaman by Elder Shamans from the Sami (European tradition), and Achuar and Sápara peoples of the Amazon. He is the co-creator of Movement Medicine a contemporary and dynamic shamanic practice designed to support people from all walks of life to be who they truly are and encouraged to share their gifts effortlessly.

    Ya'Acov runs the School of Movement Medicine from his base in Devon with his wife Susannah and teaches inspiring, empowering workshops and seminars around the world. They are two of the foremost teachers of embodied consciousness on the planet.

    They Co-Authored 'Movement Medicine - How to Awaken, Dance and Live Lour Dreams' on Hay House 2009

    "Life really does have a sense of humour. How does a guy, raised near Liverpool, who as a teenager, only ever danced when he was drunk, get to become a movement teacher? At the age of 21, I got a wake up call when I was hit by lightening on a golf course. After this and until recently, I struggled for years to come to terms with a perception of life that only traditional Shamanism could explain. Along the way, I had to carve out a sense of normality and accept that this being’s soul speaks the language of dance, ritual and prayer. I have come to recognise that re-awakening and forever deepening a sense of the magic, potential and splendour of creation in as many people as possible, is the blessing I am lucky enough to call my job!” Ya'Acov Darling Khan

    "Ya'Acov and Susannah are seasoned explorers of the psyche who have built up a fantastic and well-deserved reputation over the years" Barefoot Doctor

The Book

Lynne Twist, Co-Founder of the Pachamama Alliance and Author of “The Soul of Money” says;

“Ya’Acov Darling Khan has written an exquisite and important book that places the great and deep work of Shamanism in its rightful context in this critical time in human history.  For too long, shamanism has been seen as a left field weekend pastime that is divorced from the challenges that we face as a species in these extraordinary times. Ya’Acov’s story of his 30-year initiation into the shaman’s world is an invitation for us to look deeply into what matters most to us and to find the courage to live from this place. His shamanic work is rooted in his love for life and the Amazon rainforest and he and his wife Susannah have dedicated their lives to protecting ‘the wild’ inside us and in nature. He is highly respected amongst our indigenous partners in the Amazon where he is accepted as a practicing shaman.

Ya’Acov’s book is vital for all of us who are ready to find the passion, dedication and courage to bring our visions to earth and to leave a legacy for our descendants that we can be proud of.”

Ya’acov says;
“The book I have written, which has been a seven-year project, candidly describes my own journey towards accepting who and what I am. It is a clarion call for us all to do the same. And, as our dear friend Eva Chapman put it, it takes the sham out of shamanism. And because I believe that engaged shamanism is one of the medicines that can help our species to become a more benign presence on this earth, I want to get to get that message out there as far and wide as possible.”

The Talk

We are living in times when the earth is crying out for empowered human beings connected to their hearts to stand up for life. It takes a huge investment to ‘grow’ a mature human being – someone who is living in the everyday recognition of what they have been given and what they are being given by life; a human being who is overflowing with gratitude and joyfully inhabits the living prayer of reciprocity, giving back to life with everything they’ve got. Unfortunately, many people in the alternative world have made power the enemy. ‘Power corrupts’ they say, embracing powerlessness and pointing the finger of blame and judgement at those who use power for good or for ill.

In the shaman’s world, a conscious and crafted blend of power and vulnerability is necessary for the initiatory journey in which the shaman discovers how to responsibly use their medicine. In order to make any positive impact in this world, it is our task to purify our relationship to power and vulnerability so that we can know deep in our hearts what our power is for.

In this inspiring and challenging talk, Ya’Acov will talk about power and vulnerability as the twin keys for taking our place as empowered, creative and conscious human beings whose intention is to make as much positive impact in the world as we possibly can.

The Shamanic Journey

The talk will be followed by a Movement Medicine embodied Shamanic Journey with live music led by Ya’Acov. Movement Medicine weaves together the expression and liberation of freedom to move spontaneously, or be still, in the spirit of shamanic practice.

This approach reminds us of the interconnect-ness of nature and our natures by challenging the illusion of separation. We all have our unique place on the planet in the dancing weave of life. The Shamanic Journey session invites everyone to experience together as individuals, part of the One.

What people say about working with Ya’Acov

“Movement Medicine brings meditation and movement into one. If mindfulness meditation is about knowing what’s happening as it’s happening without judgement, then if, as our bodies move, we can maintain awareness without judging the dance or the dancer, we can be said not only to be mindful, but to be meditating as we dance.”  Charlie Morley, Lucid dreaming teacher and author, London

“It was so wonderful meet you after three years…and you know what…you have changed amazingly. I haven’t seen you so happy before. Actually I haven’t seen anyone so happy before. Happy and in a complete harmony with destiny, mission, path or however you call it. You become so powerful… just your presence is powerful. And I can see a huge change in your teaching. My experience of this workshop was that it wasn’t a workshop, it wasn’t a method, it wasn’t your teaching – it was space in which healing was happening. There was a healing there wasn’t a teacher. Amazing and very deep. And another  healing thing is … you’re so positive in your attitude to life. It’s infectious. It’s powerful. It’s inspiring. I love it. Thank you for everything.”   Olga, Dance movement therapist, Warsaw
